Abstract : Ancient wisdom from various philosophical and spiritual traditions such as Buddhism, Taoism, and Stoicism has long offered valuable insights into human behavior, mental well-being, and emotional regulation. These traditions emphasize practices like mindfulness, meditation, and self reflection, which align closely with principles in modern psychology. Recently, there has been growing interest in integrating these ancient teachings with contemporary psychological approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Positive Psychology.Modern psychology, with its evidence-based methods, recognizes the value of these traditional practices in enhancing mental health and well-being. For instance, mindfulness—a central element of Buddhism—is now incorporated into therapies like MBSR and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Similarly, Stoic techniques for emotional regulation and cognitive reframing find parallels in CBT, helping individuals challenge irrational thoughts and build emotional resilience. The fusion of ancient wisdom and modern psychological practices offers a more holistic approach to mental health. Ancient teachings provide deep, experiential knowledge of the self and emotions, while modern psychology offers structured, scientifically validated methods. This integration enables a more comprehensive approach to mental well-being, promoting self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and resilience. By bridging these two domains, this paper explores how ancient wisdom can complement and enhance modern psychological practices, offering individuals a more rounded and effective toolkit for mental health and personal growth.
Keyword: Ancient Wisdom, Modern Psychology, Mindfulness, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotional Regulation, Holistic Mental Health.
